Kanhaiya Kumar, who previously served as the president of JNUSU and was a leader of the All India Students Federation (AISF), has been appointed as the in-charge of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), which is the students’ wing of the Congress party. This appointment was made by the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, as stated in a letter signed by the party’s national general secretary, K C Venugopal.
In 2018, after joining the CPI, Kanhaiya was given the opportunity to be part of the party’s national executive council, which was regarded as a significant gesture. However, differences arose within the party, leading him to join the Congress in 2021.
